Export the chat in WhatsApp before you make a keepsake
WhatsApp can save a .txt file, or a .zip with the media it included. The file can be incomplete. Threadkeep reads it on this device and does not upload it.
What the file contains
A text export is the conversation WhatsApp wrote into the file. A media export is a zip with that text and the photos or other files WhatsApp included.
If WhatsApp left a message or a photo out, Threadkeep cannot put it back. Missing media is reported in the preview. It is not invented.
Start in WhatsApp
Open the chat in WhatsApp and use the app's own export action. Menu labels differ by phone and by app version, so follow the labels you see. Choose whether to include media, then keep the original file unchanged.
- A .txt is enough when you only need the messages
- A .zip is the export that can include media
- Keep a second copy before you rename anything
Then make the keepsake
Choose that file on the keepsake page, look at the preview, and download the PDF. An HTML copy stays under More options.
